I’m thrilled to announce THE Mila FREAKING Jaroniec as Comp Title Book Club’s next guest author.
Join us for a live craft and book club discussion later this month. Details coming soon!
Like Lexi Kent-Monning, November’s guest author, Mila is my fellow alumna of the Mors Tua Vita Mea workshop. She’s beyond cool—a graceful, incisive writer and a thoughtful editor. She’s well known for her debut novel, Plastic Vodka Bottle Sleepover (Split Lip Press, 2016), and for publishing the Substack-based magazine Black Lipstick. I read her novella NETRATĀ, published in Joyland in 2022, in one sitting, and the world felt surreal when I looked up from my phone screen. You can learn more about her body of work at https://milajaroniec.com/.
Join me and Mila Jaroniec as we read and discuss her comp title, Valencia by Michelle Tea.
Michelle Tea’s early memoir-in-essays Valencia (Seal Press, 2000) captures one perspective on what life was like for queer women living in San Francisco’s Mission District in the nineties. Tea has gone on to write incredible works like Modern Tarot (2017) and Against Memoir (2018) and to found Amethyst Editions, an imprint of Feminist Press.
As always, you can catch the recording a few days afterward on this Substack, YouTube, and wherever you get your podcasts. More on this to come, so subscribe to this Substack for real-time updates!
